* - calling for an end to the death, destruction, and deficit resulting from our continued military occupation of Iraq.

A solid majority of drivers reacting to our signs gave us a thumbs-up or V for victory sign.

Sign-holding Visibility Marking the Two Thousandth Military Death in Iraq 10-29-05

Sat. Oct. 29 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 Noon, Westfield Green
- It was an an impressive scene as banners and signs for local political candidates were joined by our banners and signs encouraging others to join us in
calling for an end to the death, destruction, and deficit resulting from our continued military occupation of Iraq. What could better reflect our American form of representative democracy - illustrating both the obligation to elect the best candidates we can find to represent us and the obligation to publicly speak out when necessary on actions taken by those whom we have elected to represent us?

Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving) Vigil for Peace at Holyoke Crossing 11/25/05

10:00 a.m. to 12:00 Noon Holyoke Crossing -  along the main road to the Holyoke Mall at Ingleside in Holyoke, MA

Our Waronokers were joined by representatives of The Veterans for Peace, Vietnam Veterans Against War, Military Families Against the War, and the Springfield Area Kucinich Group  bringing our total participation to about twenty*

On the day after Thanksgiving, we were there to remind the throngs of holiday shoppers that a needless war and military occupation in Iraq again mar this season of "peace on earth" for another year.  Our  message also included "Promote Peace, No War Toys" and "For Peace? - Speak out!"

Click Here to SEE PHOTOS FROM OUR EVENT Special thanks to Alison and Katherine from the Springfield Area Kucinich Group for taking these photos and sending them to us so quickly!

* A few days before the event we took a shot at starting a"Pick a Mall and Tell Them All!" campaign in which Waronoke members spread the word via the internet, challenging all like-minded groups and individuals nationwide to do similar events - forego shopping and eating leftovers for a few hours on Friday, November 25. By all means activists should go to the closest mall where thousdands of others will be heading, but they should head there with signs and banners in hand. Groups can position themselves on the sides of public access roads for maximum visability and get the word out that The Troops have to come home,  and George Bush and his cronies have got to go. Our group is also discouraging the purchase of violent or military toys and video games. How about it, a couple of hours in the brisk morning air with your fellow activists will be envigorating will help burn off the calories gained the day before!

NOTE ALSO: Leading up to the above date we also helped with a Petition to require the Massachusetts Governor to withdraw all MA National Guard troops from Iraq and require that MA National Guard troops in the future could not be sent outside of MA without a law passed by the state Legislature.  Individuals and pairs of Waronoke Peace Action Group members gathered signatures on this petition at promising locations (such as the post office or landfills).

Sat. March 25, 2006 Vigil on the Westfield Green marking the third anniversary of the beginning of the Iraq war.  Click here to see PHOTOS from the event.

The vigil was held at the Westfield Green as part of a week of vigils held around the world marking the third anniversary of the beginning of the Bush administration's war of choice in Iraq. Signs documented the cost to date in deaths and debt and encouraged fellow citizens to demand an end to the occupation of Iraq by American military forces. About twenty five enthusiastic sign holders joined the vigil. Participants included representatives from  Students for Peace and Justice at Westfield State College, Veterans for Peace, and West Springfield Citizens for Peace. Many drivers honked their horns and gave a thumbs-up to show their support and agreement.
